The historical collection of the Library of the Academy of Sciences of the CR (ASL) has not been created over the years by one private owner, family or institution; nevertheless, it still preserves resources interesting for researchers in terms of provenance. Through various methods of acquisition (purchases in antiquarian bookshops, literary estates, donations, transfers), approximately 25,000 volumes of printed books made before the middle of the 19th century have been collected in the library. A significant part comes from three former chateau libraries – Doksy, Liblice and Děčín. During cataloguing, ownership marks were recorded in a special catalogue with detailed descriptions of the individual features of the copies. Books that are more frequently represented include those by von Engelshofen, W. Hegemüller von Dubenweilern, the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin from Mnichovo Hradiště and the Thun-Hohenstein family. Since 2008, a list of all the registered former owners of the books from the historical depository has been created from cataloguing descriptions in order to make the data accessible on the ASL website, or interconnect them with the PROVENIO database.
