Evaluation of the Educational Potential of the Fin Whale Skeleton in the National Museum of the Czech Republic for a Child Visitor
The study examines the potential of a fin whale skeleton from “The Miracles of Evolution” exhibition at the National Museum in Prague as the centerpiece of an informal education program. The article outlines its interdisciplinary educational value and describes activities developed to leverage this potential, drawing on museum resources and examples from Dutch cetacean exhibitions. In July 2025, these activities were implemented during the Summer Day Camp for Young Naturalists. A questionnaire survey assessed participants’ knowledge before and after the program, their attitudes toward museums, and preferences for content and teaching methods. The survey also built on previous research into children’s perceptions of museums at the same institution. Findings indicate strong interest in museums among this age group, high satisfaction with the program format, and measurable knowledge gains.
