Genesis of Oskar Nedbal´s Ballet From Tale to Tale in the Correspondence deposited in Theatre Collection of National Museum The ballet pantomime From Tale To Tale, firstly staged on 25th January 1908, belongs to the most famous Czech ballet works in the history of Czech ballet. It was staged seven times with total of 722 performances in The National Theatre in Prague only. Finally it was choreographed in 1994 by Jiří Blažek. As a prototype of „a ballet for children audience“, due to perfectly cooperation between libretist Ladislav Novák and composer Oskar Nedbal first of all, it was keeping up the repertoire of Czech and Slovak ballet ensembles during the 20th century. The Theatre Department of The National Museum manages a part of Oskar Nedbal estate. Thanks to the tens pieces of letters between Nedbal and Novák we are able to look inside some preparations of making this „Czech ballet treasure“. For its historic value we quote larger parts of these authentic hand-written letters, that Nedbal wrote to Novák during the year 1907 until the premiere. They discussed these topics mostly: phases of writting music, additional changes in libretto made by Novák and choreograph Achille Viscusi (Nedbal disagreed with these changes but his objections was not accepted mostly), a lack of pantomime in spite of dance, a punctual plot character of some dance variations, and problems with setting the date of premiere.
