Preliminary Report on an Early Modern Era Coin Find from the Village of Rzy (Ústí nad Orlicí Distr.).
The hoard was discovered accidentally on the 2nd April 2018 in a forest situated south-south-west from the village of Rzy. It was concealed within two ceramic vessels, one of which was covered with a lid. The total number of coins in the hoard was 2269 comprising 784 pieces in the first container, 1207 in the second, and 278 additional pieces placed on the top. The hoard had been buried after 1673. The stem of the hoard is represented by 3-kreuzers of Ferdinand II (1619–1637) and Ferdinand III (1637–1657) struck in various mints of the Habsburg confederation. The earlier part of the hoard consists of 162 Prague groschen especially. The Rzy Hoard offers an insight into the monetary system in East Bohemia following the end of the Thirty Years’ War.
