The article examines the activities of the bookbinding workshop designated in the Einbanddatenbank (EBDB) database as Sechsblatt-Blüte rund and assigned the number w003831. Its products decorated with blind tooling — of which it has so far been possible to identify sixteen manuscripts preserved in Czech libraries and one in Austria — date from the early fifteenth century. Its activity is securely attested between 1404 and 1418, and the workshop probably operated for several years before and after these dates. On the basis of an identical tool impression, it may be inferred that the same workshop also bound a manuscript previously associated with the workshop Lilie rund V (EBDB w003409). According to the documented commissioners for whom it bound books, the workshop operated in Prague: its customers included the Benedictine monastery at Ostrov and its prior Martin; the Emmaus monastery of the Slavic Benedictines and the Servite monastery Na Slupi, both in the New Town of Prague; the preacher Johlín of Vodňany; and Šimon of Rokycany, a student and later Master of the Prague university. The head of the workshop has not been securely identified with any of the Prague bookbinders of this period known by name; the most plausible candidates are the bookbinders Antonín or Jan (although in the latter case, it is uncertain whether one or two individuals are concerned).
