Jan Porkert, the Czech mammalogist and ornithologist first of all, died September 26, 2000 in Opočno, at age of 66. He was known to mammalogists as the author of studies influencing the immigration of small mammals into human dwelling buildings by the actual meteorological conditions. Besides, he is the author and co-author of short studiesreflecting occasional finds of an scientifically valuable material. Jan Porkert was born in Rychnov nad Kněžnou (East Bohemia) at September 6, 1934. He graduated in zoology at the faculty of Sciences, Charles University, Praha (1964). He published over 50 scientific communications.
