Species dominance, constancy, and diversity of the community of small mammals from a small area situated near the town of Česká Kamenice in northern Bohemia, Czech Republic (50° 49’ N; 14° 23’ E), is reported based on results of trappings and accidental observations. Altogether, 770 individuals belonging to 14 species of insectivores, rodents and carnivores were recorded in 1979 to 1996. The sample obtained is characteristic for a community occurring in highlands with extensive woods and abundant wet habitats. Data on the occurrence of other species of bats and large mammals in the area under study are also reported. Certain species were not recorded at all (Eliomys quercinus, Glis glis, Microtus subterraneus, Apodemus agrarius), and their absence is discussed in respect of their geographic distribution and habitat requirements.
