Presentation of Portrait Miniatures – History and Present

This article examines the phenomenon of portrait miniatures, focusing on the distinctive painting techniques that underpin their inherent fragility and the most common types of damage observed. It further traces the historical evolution of their display, from early presentation methods to current exhibition practices within heritage sites and museum institutions. Particular attention is given to the role of the Tansey Miniatures Foundation in Celle, whose sustained efforts in the promotion, research, and long-term presentation of portrait miniatures represent a significant contribution to the field.
