Basic information on the occurrence of bats in the northern part of the Českomoravská vrchovina Highlands is given. The study area of about 6,450 km2/ is defined roughly as a territory situated between the Labe (Elbe) river basin in the north and the D1 highway (Praha–Brno) in the south. Besides the results of an intensive field work carried out mostly in 2006–2014, this review summarises all other available unpublished records, data from museum collections as well as all published data. Reviews of all registered findings accompanied by complete data on the circumstances of the yet unpublished findings are given. Distribution pattern of particular bat species is presented using grid maps. In total, 22 bat species were recorded (81.5% of bat fauna of the Czech Republic), and nearly two thirds of them are widespread in the region under study (including Myotis mystacinus, M. daubentonii, Barbastella barbastellus, Plecotus auritus, P. austriacus). However, the occurrence of several species is apparently patchy and irregular in the region (e.g. Myotis nattereri, Pipistrellus pipistrellus, Vespertilio murinus, Eptesicus nillsonii). Myotis bechsteinii, Nyctalus leisleri, Pipistrellus nathusii, and P. pygmaeus are less common dendrophilous species and further data are required to be able to interpret their actual distribution in the area under study. The published finding of Myotis dasycneme near Chrudim in 1999 could not be verified by a new record and therefore we consider it accidental. In certain species (mainly the thermophilous ones), only a limited area of distribution covering mainly the south-eastern and northern parts of the region under study was confirmed (e.g. Rhinolophus hipposideros, Myotis myotis, M. emarginatus). In these species, their penetration from the southern core areas across the region under study to eastern Bohemia and further to central Bohemia is expected. Relative abundance and distribution of all recorded species of bats have been compared in particular with the southern part of the Českomoravská vrchovina Highlands (Zbytovský et al. 2004) and other neighbouring areas.
