Supergene Pb-Cu vanadate mottramite was found in the limestone quarry Smrčník near Horní Lipová, Silesia, Czech Republic. The mineral forms black-brown, locally slightly greenish and brown translucent coatings consisting of tiny (ca 0.05 mm, max. 0.15 mm large) semi-spheroidal aggregates that rest on fractures filled with cavernous quartz gangue with galena. Mottramite crystal formula corresponds to Pb1.008(Cu0.955Zn0,002Ca0,072)S1.029(V0,887P0.100)S0..987O4.000 (OH)1.00. Its XRD data suit with those of mottramite given in literature. It is the fifth occurrence of this rare mineral in the Czech Republic.
