The library collection of J. R. Vilímek deposited in the Museum of Czech Literature consists of various book sets issued by the publishing house Jos. R. Vilímek and of personal libraries of some members of the Vilímek family. Building on the information provided by a provenance analysis of this collection, this treatise attempts to shed light on its composition and put it in the context of the few facts that are available on publishers’ libraries and on the actual operation of publishing houses. It explains in detail the provenance features of individual original library sets and draws attention to the contamination of the collection by volumes belonging to other collections.
