The paper deals with the term propaganda and its interpretations in contemporary media studies. The aim of the work was to systematize and review academic and research texts which were published in journals concerning media and communication since 2001 to 2009. The author found out that there is very narrow distinction between words propaganda, public relations and persuasion and their meanings in the discourse. Contemporary perspectives on propaganda that are contended in the analyzed texts are divided into two categories: critical approach (including actual views on propaganda with respect to ,,War on Terror") and conflict between terms propaganda and PR. The paper also evaluates some attempts on meta-analysis of study of propaganda, from terminological problems to shifts in approaches.
