Morphometry of limb bones in hares and rabbits (Lagomorpha: Leporidae). Members of the genera Lepus and Oryctolagus are highly adapted to specific environmental conditions. This adaptation includes particularly the long bones of the locomotion system. Different segments of limbs did not adapt in the same proportion. Morphological differences between the limb bones of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and the European hare (Lepus europaeus) are caused by behavioural differences between these two mammals. The Lepus species developed a striking elongation of stylopodium and especially zygopodium.
