To the 1st January 2008, there were kept 73 species of endangered mammals species (forms) in 19 Czech and Slovak zoological gardens. In 2007, there were bred both two species extinct in the wild (EW) and from 20 critical endangered species (CR), 12 ones were bred, while from 51 endangered species (EN), 28 ones were bred. In five zoos, one third of this species number (all three categories) was kept. Breeding of artiodactyls was the most successful.
