Jan Reimoser (1904–1979), dance critic, theoretician, librettist, translator and educator, is one of the most remarkable figures to have contributed to the development of the art of dance in Czechoslovakia. The Theatre history Department of the National Museum contains his estate including hundreds of items exclusively related to his professional activities – not his private life. In Reimoser’s library, one can find a number of printed books that are unique or currently hardly available. In terms of content, this book set covers dance history, dance theory and methodology and music theory, with individual titles being related to various dance techniques. The manuscript part of the legacy provides attractive material for the study of the history of the structure of particular fields at the present Dance Department of the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In addition, it comprises almost unique documents on several Czechoslovak dance and cultural events, among others the first National Solo Dance Competition organised in Mariánské Lázně (Marienbad) in 1949, and programme brochures for ballet productions of foreign theatres.
