In 1968 Czechoslovakia there was a significant change in relationship between the ruling authorities and media. Stalinists’ model of this relationship was in crisis in late 60ties − new media legislation of 1966 was of no help. At the beginning of 1968 media supervision was legislatively strong, but the journalists actually ignored it. The galloping events of Prague spring smashed off factual censorship and its institution. At the end of June the censorship was banned. The communist party lost almost all media supervision. The only sphere they were still able to influence was media personnel screening. The occupation of Czechoslovakia brought again a principal change of the relation between the ruling power and media. In autumn 1968 and at the beginning of 1969 media managed to stand up to new authorities, but in the first few years of normalization the former totalitarian model was inevitably re-established.
