Defects in coin production represent the known sorts of anomalies in the striking process which are connected with inattention of the minter or his assistant. The defective coins are characterized by the fact that they were struck twice of the same pair of dies by mistake. This kind of defective product appeared among coins found on the cadastral territory of Dřevěnice (Jičín district). Among other coins, there was one Prague grossus of Wenceslas IV showing traces of overstrikes by the same dies. The mentioned anomaly illustrates combination of several defects emerged during the striking process. Besides the minting mistakes – the coin is doublestruck, the dies are displaced, the upper die is not fully struck or double-struck – there is a mistake in the die-engraving job: the letter ‘I’ in the word ‘TERCIVS’ is missing on the obverse die.
