A clipped forgery of the Prague grossus of Ferdinand I of Habsburg is described in the article. Its fabric is relatively good, the massive clipping obviously reminds this sort of activity typical for territories outside the Kingdom of Bohemia, where mainly the Prague grossi of John I of Luxemburg or Charles IV were handled like this, but it is not typical for the period when the Prague grossi were clipped and used as a mean of payment again. Content of the forged flan and form of its plating were found out via the EDXRF and EDS/SEM analyses. In spite of existing hypotheses for provenance and origin of the discussed forgery – because of absence of any archaeological context – it is impossible to express fully responsible and clear conclusions. The article also summarizes recently published studies focused on problems with the clipped Prague grossi.
