The study deals with the efforts of philologists, historians and museum staff at the turn of the 20th century to publish the scholarly correspondence of P. J. Šafařík. The only items that have survived from the comprehen-sively conceived project of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Arts are fragments of copies and a single published volume of Šafařík’s correspondence with Russian scientists, which were, after many complications, prepared by the philologist V. A. Frantsev.
