Regional press is mostly the only source of information that we have at our disposal for studying regional history in some territories and periods. PhDr. Hippolyt Tauschinski (1839 – 1905) lived and worked in Česká Lípa for a short time. He had been the first chairman of the Austrian Social Democratic Party before he left labor movement in 1876. In 1884/1885 he was an editor in Č. Lípa. This period of his life in Č. Lípa has been discovered recently thanks to the regional press. In the period 1884/1888 two newspapers were printed for the region Č. Lípa at the same time. The local Leipaer Zeitung (LZ) and completely new Leipaer Deutsche Zeitung (LDZ) edited and printed in Děčín. LZ were written with moderate nationalism, on the other hand LDZ supported uncompromisingly German nationalism. At the beginning of December 1884 Tauschinski became an owner of the tolerant LZ. Unscrupulous campaigns were aimed at LP and its protagonist Tauschinski. He was banished from Česká Lípa in March 1885 and defended himself legally against such an unusual decision. After less than 8 months, in the middle of July 1885, he sold LZ and left for Vienna.
