The scholarly paper discusses the historical development, structure and significance of the collection of graphic and fine artworks of the Ethnographic Institute of the Moravian Museum. It focuses in more detail on several prominent authors and specific works and presents new findings that have emerged from the curation of the collection between 2022 and 2025. The collection, which currently comprises 3,127 inventory numbers, preserves original works of art by several academic painters, but most of them reflect its original purpose, namely to collect works of fine art documenting traditional folk culture. Fine art still serves as a source of information today, and the collection is particularly valuable as iconographic sources for the study of clothing from the first quarter of the 19th century. The techniques used in the collection include pen and ink drawings, washed pen and ink drawings, watercolours, gouache, drawings in Indian ink, pencil, charcoal and pastel, lithographs, woodcuts and combinations of techniques. This relatively small collection has undergone re-cataloguing in recent years, building on the work of former curators. It was completed in 2024 and is currently available, among other things, in the form of this contribution, evaluating and summarising its significance for potential research purposes.
