The study is the result of a two-year documentation project that enriched the National Museum’s collection with remarkable objects and was presented at the exhibition Border is Just a Word (Hranice je jen slovo). The author presents the initiative Saturdays for Neighbourhood (Soboty pro sousedství), which was founded at the end of April 2020 and soon transformed from a secret group into a self-conscious civic initiative, recognised by politicians and media alike. Thanks to unique documents, it is possible to get a glimpse into the background of the protests, picnics and happenings that took place on the green border in May 2020, as well as follow the reaction of the initiative and the Klub česko-německého partnerství (Czech-German Partnership Club) to government measures in autumn 2020 and early 2021. The insight into the topic of closed borders also reveals a number of things about the behaviour of society, politicians and the media in “covid times”.
