The Chotělice Castle Library contains an album of drawings by the Austro-Hungarian officer Count Arthur August von Mensdorff-Pouilly (1817–1904). The album, dating from the years 1874 and 1875 with a short overlap to 1876, contains drawings and German-written comments in Kurrent (German cursive), which depict the life in the military garrison in Prostějov and its surroundings – everyday affairs during the training of dragoons, official events, inspections, military exercises, and scenes with horses. In addition, they include incidents from the author’s private life – trips with other officers or with his wife. The album provides an interesting insight into the professional life of an Austro-Hungarian officer, but it also presents some of the author’s personality traits and opinions.
