During archaeological excavations in Ostrow Lednicki in Greater Poland, and Lubrza in Silesia, two deniers were discovered which, according to their designs, refer to the Brandenburg deniers of the Ascanian Period. However, they differ from the original Margravial issues in a more primitive execution, and despite being similar they also vary in their appearance from each other, especially as for the reverse images. The particular way of coin production which does not fall into the category of imitations, nor, due to the precious metal used, is in fact a forgery, is euphemistically called „counterfeit” for the purposes of this study. The type from Lubrza (Da. 135) is quite rare and occurs mostly as a single specimen in the hoards found west of the Oder River. On the other hand, the denier type from Ostrow Lednicki (Da. 136) is so far the only find and the second known specimen. These coins could have been struck in the countries bordering with Brandenburg (Saxony-Wittenberg, Anhalt) between 1295 and 1300.
