The study presents an overview of the prose published during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. It tries to break down contemporary production according to strong directions and trends, as well as according to preferred genres and popular space. At that time, the amount of the historical prose that pointed to the glory and greatness of the Czech nation greatly increased. Many village novels were also published, referring to Czech traditions and the ‘healthy soul of the nation’. Small-town stories and prose stories taking place in Prague were popular as well. The achievements and abilities of the nation were confirmed by stories of Czechs abroad. Psychological prose saw a great boom: since writers could not freely write about the situation around them, they focused on the human heart and interpersonal relationships. Few authors wrote in the spirit of Nazi ideals: these were mostly low-quality texts of lower genres with anti-Semitic content.
