Krocin's Fountain – destruction 1862 – unsuccessfull rconstructions 1895 and 1915 – torso – Lapidarium of the National Museum. The Fountain of Krocín at the Old Town Square of Prague was an extraordinary valuable sculptural monument from the end of the 16th century. Nevertheless, in 1862, it was ruthlessly removed, because the City Council deemed the proposed technical and artistic repair work too costly. Moreover, some of the material of that fountain was used as building material for the the Žižkov Gas Works. That truly barbaric act has been a permanent trauma for the Czech cultural circles, so that a reconstruction of the fountain's torso in a public square was attempted in 1895 and, again, in 1915. However, both projects was abandoned, because extant fragments were insufficient for reconstruction or for a copy. Nevertheless, present City Council does consider a reconstruction of Krocín's Fountain on the Old Town Square in 2013. The torso of the original fountain is in the Lapidarium of the National Museum in the Prague Exhibition Palace.
