The article deals with two periodicals published by the printer Josef Dvořák in Strakonice in 1885. These two magazines, called Stráž na Šumavě and Hlasy ze Šumavy, were published directly for Strakonice in South Bohemia. Their publication stimulated the development of journalism in this town, which is located at the confluence of the rivers Otava and Volyňka. The core of the article is an analysis of the contents of the two titles, which were published every two weeks. The main focus is on the individual sections that appeared in the magazines. Attention is also drawn to the social and national issues of the time and their reflection in the content of the magazines. For example, disputes with the local factory class, represented primarily by Jewish manufacturers, became a major issue. The political divisions between the Old Czech Party and the Young Czech Party were not omitted either. The conclusion of the article states that the published magazines can serve both as a kind of chronicle of the life in 19th-century Strakonice and as a valuable resource for numerous historical articles devoted to various topics from regional history.
