Czech Press Photo 2025 presents a selection of nearly 800 of the best journalistic photographs at the New Building of the National Museum, capturing key events of the past year in the Czech Republic and around the world. The prestigious Czech Press Photo competition is open to professional Czech photojournalists and, starting this year, European photojournalists as well, and has long provided exceptional visual testimony of its time.
The exhibition features winning and nominated works from all 9 competition categories, recipients of special and partner awards, selected images from the Czech Photo Junior competition, and the Photo of the Year. The Photo of the Year award went to a photograph from the series “Miners at Work at the ČSM-Sever Mine (OKD)” by Lukáš Kaboň (Deník), which powerfully documents the symbolic end of the era of underground mining in the Ostrava region.
The exhibition features a diverse range of themes—from environmental and social events to portraiture and culture, as well as sports, everyday life, and significant moments in domestic politics. Thanks to a collaboration with the National Museum, the photographs can be viewed in the unique spaces of the Brutalist New Building, an architecturally significant work by Karel Prager, including the travertine hall on the ground floor.
