The Alpine shrew (Sorex alpinus) is considered probably extinct in the Pyrenees. However, newly published photographs of an ‘unknown shrew’ from the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park in the Spanish part of the range indicate its recent occurrence in the mountains.
