A breeding colony of Eptesicus nilssonii (48 individuals including 25 adult females) was found in Karlštejn, Central Bohemia, i. e. in the low altitude region (220 m a. s. l.) from where still no records of the species were available. The site is situated in the area of intensive agriculture neigboured by wineyards and sparse xerotermic oak forest, i. e. in the landscape context quite different from contexts of all previous records of the species in the Czech Republic. It seems thus that the recent area expansion in Eptesicus nilssonii, well evidenced by abundance increase in hibernacula as well as by increase in number of summer records, may also result in colonizing the regions and habitats which until now were avoided.
