Mirrors with memory. Daguerreotypes in the collections of the Department of Early Czech History at the National Museum in Prague
The study presents a collection of 46 portrait daguerreotypes of prominent figures primarily from Czech artistic, scientific, intellectual and social life in the 1840s and early 1850s, as well as previously unknown burghers and burgesses. It deals with the attribution and dating of the photographs based on provenance, archival and technological research, and interprets individual monuments in a cultural-historical context. Among the most significant inland pieces in the collection are the works of Wilhelm Horn, collection of family portraits of the Palacký and Rieger families by Jan Maloch, and the works of Bedřich Anděl. German, French, Italian, and American productions are also represented.
