Two exceptional old samples of goethite from the locality Šonov near Broumov (Czech Republic) were newly registered into the mineralogical collection of the National Museum in Prague. They form brown radial aggregates with the length of fibers up to 10 cm. Both samples were found in the 19th century and therefore their exact location is not known. The older literature suggests that big aggregates of radial goethite were found in the vugs of melaphyre during experimental mining of limonite iron ores near the Šonov village. Melaphyres of Permian age present in this area penetrated through the Carboniferous and Permian sediments of the Intrasudetic Basin of the Bohemian Massif. Finds of goethite near Šonov are very similar to goethite from vugs of melaphyre penetrated through the Carboniferous and Permian Krkonoše-piedmont Basin.
