This article deals with the constructing of Czech national identity in the content of Czech print media. It is an abstract of a bachelor thesis entitled "Construction of Czech national identity in Czech print media: a qualitative analysis of Mladá fronta/Mladá fronta DNES and Rudé právo daily newspapers in the years 1989 and 1992". The periods under examination are the same for 1989 and 1992 - from 17th November until 31st December. The text concentrates on what identity, which traditions and attributes and what character are given to the Czech nation by selected newspapers. In this way it notices differences between both newspapers and points out distinctions which happened between 1989 and 1992. The article also contains brief characteristics of the selected media. In the text it is stressed out that media construction of Czech national identity derives from the social construction of reality and therefore is influenced by social context. The social context in 1989 was in the first place the velvet revolution and subsequent release of Czechoslovakia from the dominance of the U.S.S.R. In 1992 the social context was mainly the oncoming dissolution of Czechoslovakia and its influence on relations between the Czechs and Slovaks.
