The National Museum’s Theatre Department has been collecting materials on contemporary theatre since its establishment in 1930. Over the last fifteen years, however, it has substantially expanded its activities in the field of contemporary theatre documentation to include long-term and partial projects in which curators themselves actively document and generate large amounts of data, mainly digital. They do so, knowing that if some of the sources related to theatre are not to be lost, it is necessary to document them here and now, without waiting for changes in legislation and the creation of a methodological framework. A significant part of our communication has moved to the virtual space – and some events now take place almost exclusively there. This is also the case with the controversy surrounding Per Boye Hansen’s appointment to the National Theatre in 2019, which can be reconstructed on the basis of documents available at the Theatre Department: open letters and responses to them, discussions in the media and on social networks.
