The paper examines the involvement of teachers in the development of regional studies in North Bohemia during the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. Teachers contributed significantly to the creation of works devoted to regional studies, which were often published by teachers’ associations. Through these writings, they actively disseminated content that contributed to the formation of regional identity. By presenting historical events and contemporary achievements, teachers sought to have an educational influence, strengthening the connection to the native land and instilling a sense of pride and rootedness among its inhabitants. However, it is important to note that these works focused on regional studies were influenced by the broader context of general nation formation, which had an increasing influence on the establishment of group identities during this period. Czech Germans were characterised by strong ties to specific regions and individual urban centres. The relationship to the Habsburg monarchy as the common “house” of its peoples became formalised during the 19th century. Over time, the German-speaking population of the Czech Lands made a deliberate effort to identify and define the elements of a common, unified identity, referred to as “Sudeten German” since the beginning of the 20th century.
