This contribution is devoted to three forgotten newspapers that stood at the beginning of the professional career of the later important journalist and editor Karel Jonáš (1865–1922). In the town of Soběslav, these were the Hlasy od Lužnice and the Choustník; later in the town of Jindřichův Hradec, it was the periodical Hlasy z Jindřichova Hradce. Their development, form and content are set not only in the context of the history of both South Bohemian towns, but especially in the context of the growing Czech journalistic production of the time with all of its pitfalls and problems that significantly affected the short existence of these newspapers.
