Astronomy was one of the main interests of Bohuslav Hasištejnský z Lobkovic. This is obvious from the catalog of his library (see Kamil Boldan and Emma Urbánková: Rekonstrukce knihovny Bohuslava Hasištejnského z Lobkovic – Reconstruction of the Library of Bohuslav Hasištejnský z Lobkovic, in preparation), but also from mentions in his correspondence about astronomical instruments and related objects that he tried to obtain for his collections. (See Jan Martínek and Dana Martínková, Editors: Bohuslai Hassensteinii a Lobkowicz Epistulae. II. Epistulae ad familiares. B. G.Teubner, Leipzig, 1980.) His library didn't lack any important incunabula, mainly those published in Italy (Venice) and Germany (Augsburg). He owned both the fi rst, and the subsequent editions of authors of antiquity (Aristarchus of Samos, Cleomedes, Marcus Manilius, Iulius Firmicus Maternus, Proclus etc.) as well as Latin translations of Arab scholars (Albumasar, Messahalla, Alcabitius, Albohazen, Abraham ibn Ezra) and his contemporaries (Regiomontanus, Georg von Peuerbach) and famous textbooks, favorites for several centuries (Johannes Sacrobosco, Robertus Grosseteste, Leopoldus of Austria, Gerard of Cremona). In the remnants of his correspondence with Bernard Adelmann, his friend from their student years, Hasištejnský mentions objects that Adelmann had already sent him, or requests some more: an astrolabe, instructions (canones) for the construction of sundials (instrumenta horaria), a globus (probably built by Martinus Waldseemüller in 1507) and a Map of the World (mappa mundi).
