The correspondence of the Czech poet and writer Julius Zeyer (1841–1901) with the Náprstek family covers the period between 1882 and 1900. The letters show Julius Zeyer not only as a significant representant of the Czech cultural movement in the 19th century but also as a renowned collector of the native art from Europe, Asia and North Africa. The correspondence illustrates the relation of Julius Zeyer with Vojtěch Náprstek and his wife Josefa Náprstková. Besides, Zeyer´s letters also shed some light onthe cultural and political conditions in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in the late 19th century. In his letters, Julius Zeyer describes the background of some of his works and occasionally even allows us some insight into his private life as well. The letters also mention his stays in some Czech towns (Vodňany, Lužany) as well as his numerous journeys to France, Spain, Italy, Russia and Caucasus. Beside the Náprstek family, many other significant personalities appear in the correspondence.
