The book presents an insight into the history of Nubia, a region situated in the modern-day Egypt and Sudan. Individual chapters capture the political and sociocultural development of the region in the course of several millennia, since Mesolithic era topost-Meroitic period (ca. 9000 BCE – 550 CE). The historical periods are further presented to the reader by the means of representative objects from collections from the Czech Republic and abroad. The book further summarizes previous activities of Czechscientists in connection with Nubia, begun by the early travellers to Nubia in the 19th century, through the first archaeological exploration of Nubia by the Czechoslovak expeditions in the 1960s, to presentation of the up-to-date results of research carried out by Czech expeditions at the sites of Wad Ben Naga, Sabaloka and Usli.
