The manuscript travelogue Nilfahrt, whose author is considered to be Josef Xaver Adam Vratislav of Mitrovice (1818–1869), represents, in the context of Czech archival funds, a unique document of the travels of the Czech and Moravian nobility to the Orient, specifically Egypt and Nubia. The manuscript documents a several-week voyage on the Nile, which took place in 1842, began in Cairo and reached its southernmost point in the Wadi Halfa area at the 2nd Nile Cataract. The edition is limited to the most valuable part of the manuscript, namely the description of the journey through Lower Nubia, i.e. the historical territory extending between the First and Second Nile Cataracts (today flooded by Lake Nasser). It is devoted to a critical edition and interpretation of the relevant part of the manuscript.

The publication is in German.

The e-book can be purchased in the online store Palmknihy.
