The Terezín Fortress against Prussian Expansionism

The book introduces a very interesting, however nowadays neglected, part of history of fortress Terezín which was built in the late 18th century against Prussian expansion. The book describes all the significant enlargements of the fortress having taken place in the 19th century and acquaints readers with its structure and development. The main part of the book is devoted to the development and construction of forts in Terezín. The readers will further learn about a large amount of unrealized plans to increase the strength of the fortress. The book focuses also on the involvement of Terezín in the armed conflicts in its immediate surroundings, both during the Napoleonic wars in 1809 and 1813 and the Austro-Prussian War in 1866. The readers will be introduced also to the development of the fortress artillery in the 19th century, the crew of the fortress and will be able to compare modern fortifications based on forts with other similar fortifications in the Czech Republic. Last but not least the book contains a catalogue of all of fortified objects being part of the Terezín that were built in the neighbourhood of the fortress in the 19th century. The book includes more than 300 attachments, especially some contemporary plans are published for the first time. The book contains a number of previously unpublished informations.
