Tactile stations have been installed throughout the long-term exhibition Czech Folk Culture, featuring objects and materials thematically linked to the museum's collections on display. Visitors are welcome to touch and handle these items, gaining a better understanding of the materials, textures and scents associated with traditional folk culture.
The tactile trail complements all thematic sections of the long-term exhibition. Through touch and smell, visitors can explore raw and processed materials as well as everyday objects associated with domestic life, traditional crafts, agriculture, seasonal customs and folk rituals in rural Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia.
The trail features a wide range of materials and objects, including items made from wood, leather, wicker, metal, wax and paper, as well as examples of pottery, glassware, textiles and other natural materials traditionally used in crafts, households and farming, as well as in seasonal customs and rituals.
The trail also includes an olfactory component, introducing visitors to scents that complement the exhibition's themes, ranging from different types of wood and herbs to spices, resins and other natural materials. The scents were selected and developed by Markéta Filipová, who has extensive experience working with scents in museum settings.
In addition to standard exhibition labels in Czech and English, all items along the trail are accompanied by Braille labels, making the exhibition more accessible to visitors with visual impairments and contributing to a more inclusive museum experience.
The tactile trail enriches the experience of visiting the long-term exhibition, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with traditional folk culture through multiple senses.
