The exhibition Antonín Dvořák in Photographs presents more than 45 photographs taken by prominent Czech and international photographic studios, as well as amateur photographers, capturing Antonín Dvořák at various stages of his life. The display includes several rarely seen and previously unexhibited photographs of Antonín Dvořák from age 27 to the end of his life. A particularly unique feature is a set of amateur photographs (snapshots) showing Antonín Dvořák enjoying leisure time with his family at their summer residence in Vysoká u Příbramě. Also featured are stereoscopic photographs of the composer with his family taken during their stay in the United States of America.
Surviving photographs from renowned Czech studios such as those of Jan Nepomuk Langhans, Jan Mulač and Hynek Fiedler are presented alongside portraits of the composer from foreign studios including Negretti & Zambra in London, Percival M. F. Hadley in Vienna, Robert W. Thrupp in Birmingham, and Wm. Spiess in New York.
Adding a unique dimension, the exhibition also includes some of Dvořák’s surviving personal items and fashion accessories, drawn from the collection of the Antonín Dvořák Museum and loaned by one of the composer's heirs, his great-grandson Petr Dvořák. A highlight is the loan of Dvořák’s straw hat, in which he appears in a family photograph taken by his son Otakar in the garden of their home in Křečovice, alongside his wife Anna and grandson Josef Suk.
Also on display are an early travel and stereoscopic camera and a stereoscopic viewer, on loan from the National Technical Museum, offering insights into the history of photography development during the 19th century.
