Twenty years after classified as extinct, the number of the scimitar-horned oryxes bred in zoos increased by 50%. In the Czech and Slovak zoos their numbers peaked during 1990–2005. The National Museum in Prague possesses 41 skeletons and 7 skins from individuals aged from 2 days to 18 years. Osteometric data suggest that oryxes are full grown at 21 months. Horns of adult individuals are usually 70–90 cm long. Longer horns were found only in one male and four females, one of them had horns longer than 100 cm.
