Prof. Dr. Ludwig Freund (1878–1953) was an important zoologist of the first half of the 20th century. He was a comparative morphologist, zoologist and parasitologist. The paper aims to introduce this scientist from the scientific and personal point of view, mainly to the young generation of zoologists. Numerous scientific papers and a broad thematic range of his research implicated that he was hard-working and very enthusiastic person. Prof. Freund was a humble, unselfish, cordial and sensitive man with a refined sense of humour. He was a natural authority, having great acknowledgement of his colleagues.
