The striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius), although widespread in Polish lowlands north of the Krkonoše Mts., has been rarely found in the Czech (southern) part of that mountain range. Since 1961, altogether 54 specimens of the species have been obtained at 18 localities, majority of them at altitudes up to 800 m a. s. l. Four possible ways of its north-south expansion from the Polish localities into the Czech part of the Krkonoše Mts. are discussed. A permanent and reproducing population of Apodemus agrarius seems to survive recently at the south-eastern foothills of the mountains, with a potential to continue its expansion southwards into the inland of the Czech Republic.
