Records of the birch mouse (Sicista betulina) were summarised in eastern Slovakia in the period from 1981 to 1999. Altogether, records of 31 individuals (16 individuals preserved; 6 individuals from owl pellets, 9 individuals observed or not preserved) were found in 17 localities situated in 10 geomorphological units. Own material consisted of 13 individuals (10 males, 3 females) from four geomorphological units (Volovské vrchy Mts., Čergov, Levočské vrchy Mts, Pieniny). A considerable part of the material (10 individuals) was obtained by pitfall trapping. Biometric characteristics of own material were evaluated and compared with data from other four populations (Jeseníky Mts. in Moravia; Bialowieza National Park in Poland; High Tatra Mts and Pieniny in Slovakia).
