The study focuses on Czechoslovak economic penetration into the Orient in the 1920s and 1930s presented as a special case of the Oriental Institute, namely the Economics Department of the Oriental Institute. The Economics Department of the Oriental Institute focused on the infrastructure that was created to help Czechoslovak firms penetrate Oriental markets. The Oriental Institute prepared a list of Czechoslovak export firms that exported to the Orient and financed graduates or merchants who planned to explore markets, gain experience in cooperation with foreign firms or work as commissioners for Czechoslovak exporters. A few examples show the praxis of this kind of funding and the interconnection of this system with the funding possibilities of the Czechoslovak Export Institute and the Economics Institute of ČAVU.
