This article deals with the collection of Japanese folding screens from the Náprstek Museum in Prague. First part of the article presents a historical overview and some basic facts about Japanese folding screens; subsequently the text deals with the phenomenon of screens within the context of cultural and artistic exchange after the opening of Japan to the Western world in the latter half of the 19th century. The article is completed by a catalogue featuring descriptions of all 31 items from the NpM folding screen collection.
